OFO Young Birders "Big Day" in Toronto's Tommy Thompson Park

Leader: Max Segler

Spend the day with fellow young birders trying to see how many birds you can find at Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto.

Meet Saturday morning at 6:00 am at the parking lot at the south end of Leslie Street. If that's too early don't worry there is a second start at 9:00 am.  Scheduled pick-up will be for 4:30 pm; however those who wish to leave earlier, can make their own pick-up arrangements. Please note that vehicles are not allowed in the park.

This young birder "Big Day" walk will be lead by fellow young birder Max Segler and is open exclusively to young birders under 20 and parents/guardians. Birders 13 years old and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or responsible companion. The day will involve quite a bit of walking (it is 5 km to the lighthouse) and hopefully the weather will play along and the group will be able to find over 100 species of birds.

What to bring: Please bring a lunch and plenty of water along as there will no opportunity to purchase anything during the day. Bring sunscreen, hand sanitizer (the porta-potties often don't have any), and Benadryl ointment or Afterbite -- red ant bites are itchy!

What to wear: Your day will be more comfortable if you wear long pants, sturdy shoes and socks long enough to tuck your pants in to prevent red ant bites. A brimmed hat will make it easier to see the birds. Tommy Thompson Park is often colder than the rest of the city, so bring layers.

Washroom Facilities: The park has several porta-potties.

This event is part of Birds Canada's Toronto Bird Celebration. Please check out the program for other fantastic events at at torontobirdcelebration.ca/.

Point of Contact: The point of contact during the event is Gis Segler at 416-578-8321.
